1. Matter and meaning. 

Two concepts. Two lineages. Linked by a pun: matter matters, matter comes to matter. That which occupies space and with which we become acquainted through our senses becomes a thing of consequence. Consequence. Another slippery term (‘neither a word nor a concept’): consequence comes through consequence; that which is important follows or comes after as a result or inference.

Is it all just a grammatical trick, a trick or effect of language?
